The epistle of James is sometimes characterized as focusing on works at the expense of faith. In reality, James simply points out that many of us claim to have faith while our actions evince, at best, a thoughtless inconsistency or, at worst, outright hypocrisy. In other words, James makes clear that genuine faith cannot hide; if it is there, it cannot help but come out in our actions.
