One thing all of us seek is security from danger. We lock our doors to keep our homes secure from thieves. We “buckle up” to be secure when we are driving. We plan for retirement, so we will be secure after we stop working.

All of these are important, but they pale in comparison to real security – the security of knowing that when Jesus the Christ comes back, He will approve us and not wage war against us.

Jesus is not just a character in a book; He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He is coming back – not with butterflies, rainbows, and harps gently playing – but as a conqueror, and He will destroy those not on His side.

Let the Holy Spirit paint this motivating picture for you:

… when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed. (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10)

Notice Jesus will take vengeance on those who are atheists (“who do not know God”) and on those who may believe in Him but who will not surrender their own will to obey His Gospel. But, for those of us who have yielded – who have surrendered to Jesus, accepting Him as our Master, our Lord, our King – then we will not only marvel, but we will be secure as He will take us to our home in Heaven (John 14:1-3).

Do you want the only security that matters? When Jesus returns, do you want to be with Him or against Him? His victory is absolute and certain. The only question is, "On whose side are you?" Are you on the Devil’s side, destined to lose and be damned for all eternity? Or, have you wisely chosen to surrender to the Lord of Lords, join the King of Kings, and have the ultimate security of being with Him for all eternity?
