The qualifications Paul gives for overseers in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1 are more than just a checklist. They paint the picture of a man of experience, a man of sterling character, and a man with a wife of similarly impressive character. He does not merely desire a title, but desires to shepherd the church of God, keeping watch over their souls.
