Lessons from Shimei
As King David fled for his life from Jerusalem as his own son Absalom was leading a coup against him, a man named Shimei cursed and threw rocks at the king. Nevertheless, David was merciful, not only on this occasion, but later on a second occasion. Furthermore, David’s son Solomon, who would rightly inherit David’s throne, showed Shimei mercy yet a third time. What lessons can we learn from Shimei and the way David (and later Solomon) dealt with him.
