Recognizing Our Need for God
Ezekiel 16 contains a pretty graphic portrayal of the abject destitution of the nation of Israel—really before they were a nation at all—and of how God took them in and cared for them in a magnificent way. Ephesians 2 and Romans 5 contain similar figures: At a time when we were dead in our trespasses and enemies of God, God made us alive and reconciled us to Himself. Figures like these illustrate just how desperate our need is for God’s love, mercy, and care. We would do well to remind ourselves frequently of our great need for God.
