This Is the Temple of the Lord

In Jeremiah 7, the people of Judah had the false hope that so long as the temple of the Lord stood, no army could take Jerusalem. God would disabuse them of such a notion not very many years later. That temple had become little more than an idol, a good luck charm, to assuage their consciences as they continued to act wickedly. Do we put our faith in checking one little box in our service to God, all the while knowing that we are not really conforming our lives to the standard God has set for us?
